Romans 14 Bible Study – Weak Faith vs Strong Faith

In this study of Romans 14 we discover how different Christians with different convictions should behave towards each other. We’re about to find out how people with strong faith and people of weak faith should treat each other when they disagree.

Now accept the one who is weak in faith,ย butย not to have quarrels over opinions.ย 2ย One person has faith that he may eat all things, but the one who isย weak eatsย onlyย vegetables.ย 3ย The one who eats is not toย regard with contempt the one who does not eat, and the one who does not eat is not toย judge the one who eats, for God hasย accepted him.ย 4ย Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls; and he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.

5ย Oneย personย values one day over another, another values every dayย the same. Each person must beย fully convinced in his own mind.ย 6ย The one who observes the day, observes it for the Lord, and the one who eats, does so with regard to the Lord, for heย gives thanks to God; and the one who does not eat,ย it isย for the Lordย thatย he does not eat, and he gives thanks to God.ย 7ย For not one of usย lives for himself, and not one dies for himself;ย 8ย for if we live, we live for the Lord, or if we die, we die for the Lord; thereforeย whether we live or die, we are the Lordโ€™s.ย 9ย For to thisย endย Christ died and livedย again, that He might beย Lord both of the dead and of the living.

10ย Butย as forย you, why do you judge your brotherย or sister? Or you as well, why do youย regard your brotherย or sisterย with contempt? Forย we will all appear before the judgment seat of God.ย 11ย For it is written:

โ€œAs I live, says the Lord,ย to Me every knee will bow,
And every tongue willย give praise to God.โ€

12ย So thenย each one of us will give an account of himself to God.

13ย Therefore letโ€™s notย judge one another anymore, but rather determine this:ย not to put an obstacle or a stumbling block in a brotherโ€™sย or sisterโ€™sย way.ย 14ย I know and am convinced in the Lord Jesus thatย nothing is unclean in itself; but to the one whoย thinks something is unclean, to thatย person it isย unclean.ย 15ย For if because of food your brotherย or sisterย is hurt, you are no longerย walking in accordance with love.ย Do not destroy with yourย choiceย of food thatย personย for whom Christ died.ย 16ย Thereforeย do not let what is for you a good thing be spoken of as evil;ย 17ย for the kingdom of Godย is not eating and drinking, but righteousness andย peace andย joy in the Holy Spirit.ย 18ย For the one whoย serves Christ in thisย wayย isย acceptable to God and approved byย otherย people.ย 19ย So then weย pursue the things which make for peace and theย building up of one another.ย 20ย Do not tear down the work of God for the sake of food.ย All things indeed are clean, butย they are evil for the person who eats and causes offense.ย 21ย It is good not to eat meat or to drink wine, orย to do anythingย by which your brotherย or sisterย stumbles.ย 22ย The faith which you have, have as your own conviction before God. Happy is the one whoย does not condemn himself in what he approves.ย 23ย Butย the one who doubts is condemned if he eats, becauseย his eating isย not from faith; and whatever is not from faith is sin.
