Hebrews 11 Bible Study โ€“ (Watch)

In Hebrews 11 we discover the author wants us to know that we have something better than Moses, Abraham, Noah, and all the Old Testament Prophets. They talked to God, but God lives in us. He never leaves us. Our promise is founded on better hopes because this time we are the recipients and not the covenant keepers. This covenant is about God promising God, and God never lies, and He won’t disown Himself (who lives in us).

HEBREWS 11

Now faith is theย assurance ofย thingsย hoped for, theย conviction ofย things not seen.ย 2ย For by it theย men of oldgained approval.

3ย By faith we understand that the worlds were preparedย by the word of God, so that what is seenย was not made out of things which are visible.4ย By faithย Abel offered to God a better sacrifice than Cain, through which heย obtained the testimony that he was righteous, God testifyingย about hisย gifts, and throughย faith, thoughย he is dead, he still speaks.ย 5ย By faithย Enoch was taken up so that he would notย see death;ย and he was not found because God took him up; for he obtained the witness that before his being taken up he was pleasing to God.ย 6ย And without faith it is impossible to pleaseย Him, for he whoย comes to God must believe that He is andย thatย He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.ย 7ย By faithย Noah, beingย warnedย by Godย aboutย things not yet seen, in reverenceย prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, by which he condemned the world, and became an heir ofย the righteousness which is according to faith.

8ย By faithย Abraham, when he was called, obeyedย by going out to a place which he was toย receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going.ย 9ย By faith he lived as an alien inย the land of promise, as in a foreignย land,ย dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob,ย fellow heirs of the same promise;ย 10ย for he was looking forย the city which hasย foundations,ย whose architect and builder is God.ย 11ย By faith evenย Sarah herself receivedย ability to conceive, even beyond the proper time of life, since she considered Himย faithful who had promised.ย 12ย Therefore there was born even of one man, andย him as good as deadย at that,ย as many descendantsย as the stars of heaven in number, and innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore.

13ย All these died in faith,ย without receiving the promises, butย having seen them and having welcomed them from a distance, andย having confessed that they were strangers and exiles on the earth.ย 14ย For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a country of their own.15ย And indeed if they had beenย thinking of thatย countryย from which they went out,ย they would have had opportunity to return.ย 16ย But as it is, they desire a betterย country, that is, aย heavenly one. Thereforeย God is notย ashamed to beย called their God; forย He has prepared a city for them.

17ย By faithย Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who hadย received the promises was offering up his only begottenย son;ย 18ย it was heย to whom it was said, โ€œIn Isaac yourย descendants shall be called.โ€ย 19ย He considered thatย God is able to raiseย peopleย even from the dead, from which he also received him backย as aย type.ย 20ย By faithย Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau, even regarding things to come.ย 21ย By faithย Jacob, as he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, andย worshiped,ย leaningย on the top of his staff.ย 22ย By faithย Joseph, when he was dying, made mention of the exodus of the sons of Israel, and gave orders concerning his bones.

23ย By faithย Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of theย kingโ€™s edict.ย 24ย By faith Moses,ย when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaohโ€™s daughter,ย 25ย choosing rather toย endure ill-treatment with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin,ย 26ย considering the reproach ofย Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he was looking to theย reward.ย 27ย By faith heย left Egypt, notย fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured, asย seeing Him who is unseen.ย 28ย By faith heย kept the Passover and the sprinkling of the blood, so thatย he who destroyed the firstborn would not touch them.ย 29ย By faith theyย passed through the Red Sea as thoughย they were passingย through dry land; and the Egyptians, when they attempted it, wereย drowned.

30ย By faithย the walls of Jericho fell downย after they had been encircled for seven days.ย 31ย By faithย Rahab the harlot did not perish along with those who were disobedient, after she had welcomed the spiesย in peace.

32ย And what more shall I say? For time will fail me if I tell ofย Gideon,ย Barak,ย Samson,ย Jephthah, ofย David andย Samuel and the prophets,ย 33ย who by faithย conquered kingdoms,ย performedย acts ofย righteousness,ย obtained promises,ย shut the mouths of lions,ย 34ย quenched the power of fire,ย escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong,ย became mighty in war,ย put foreign armies to flight.ย 35ย Women receivedย backย their dead by resurrection; and others were tortured, not accepting theirย release, so that they might obtain a better resurrection;ย 36ย and othersย experienced mockings and scourgings, yes, alsoย chains and imprisonment.ย 37ย They wereย stoned, they wereย sawn in two,ย they were tempted, they wereย put to death with the sword; they went aboutย in sheepskins, in goatskins, being destitute, afflicted,ย ill-treatedย 38ย (menย of whom the world was not worthy),ย wandering in deserts and mountains and caves and holesย in the ground.

39ย And all these, havingย gained approval through their faith,ย did not receiveย what was promised,ย 40ย because God hadย providedย something better for us, so thatย apart from us they would not be made perfect.
