Hebrews 10 Bible Study โ (Watch)
In Hebrews 10 we see that rejecting Jesus means there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins. The point is that if Jews (or even non-Jews) run to the law for righteousness, well, they have rejected the only acceptable sacrifice, and therefore there’s no other sacrifice left to save them.
Hebrews 10:1-39
For the Law, since it hasย onlyย a shadow ofย the good things to comeย andย not the veryย form of things,ย canย never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually year by year,ย make perfect those who draw near.ย 2ย Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, because the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have hadย consciousness of sins?ย 3ย Butย inย thoseย sacrificesย there is a reminder of sins year by year.ย 4ย For it isย impossible for theย blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.ย 5ย Therefore,ย when He comes into the world, He says,
โSacrifice and offering You have not desired,
Butย a body You have prepared for Me;
6ย In whole burnt offerings andย sacrificesย for sin You have taken no pleasure.
7ย โThen I said, โBehold, Iย have come
(Inย the scroll of the book it is written of Me)
To do Your will, Oย God.โโ
8ย After saying above, โSacrifices and offerings andย whole burnt offerings andย sacrificesย for sin You have not desired, nor have You taken pleasureย in themโ (which are offered according to the Law),ย 9ย then Heย said, โBehold, Iย have come to do Your will.โ He takes away the first in order to establish the second.ย 10ย Byย this will we have beenย sanctified throughย the offering ofย the body of Jesus Christย once for all.
11ย Every priest stands daily ministering andย offering time after time the same sacrifices, whichย can never take away sins;ย 12ย but He, having offered one sacrificeย forย sinsย for all time,ย sat down at the right hand of God,ย 13ย waiting from that time onwardย until His enemies be made a footstool for His feet.ย 14ย For by one offering He hasย perfectedย for all time those who are sanctified.ย 15ย Andย the Holy Spirit also testifies to us; for after saying,
16ย โThis is the covenant that I will make with them
After those days, says the Lord:
Iย will put My laws upon their heart,
And on their mind I will write them,โ
He then says,
17ย โAnd their sins and their lawless deeds
Iย will remember no more.โ
18ย Now where there is forgiveness of these things, there is no longerย anyย offering for sin.
19ย Therefore, brethren, since weย have confidence toย enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus,ย 20ย byย a new and living way which He inaugurated for us throughย the veil, that is, His flesh,ย 21ย and sinceย we haveย a great priestย over the house of God,ย 22ย let usย draw near with aย sincere heart inย full assurance of faith, having our heartsย sprinkledย cleanย from an evil conscience and our bodiesย washed with pure water.ย 23ย Let us hold fast theย confession of ourย hope without wavering, forย He who promised is faithful;ย 24ย and let us consider howย to stimulate one another to love andย good deeds,ย 25ย not forsaking our ownย assembling together, as is the habit of some, butย encouragingย one another; and all the more as you seeย the day drawing near.
Christ or Judgment
26ย For if we go onย sinning willfully after receivingย the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,ย 27ย but a terrifying expectation ofย judgment andย the fury of a fire which will consume the adversaries.ย 28ย Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy onย the testimony ofย two or three witnesses.ย 29ย How much severer punishment do you think he will deserveย who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as uncleanย the blood of the covenantย by which he was sanctified, and hasย insulted the Spirit of grace?ย 30ย For we know Him who said, โVengeance is Mine, Iย will repay.โ And again, โThe Lord will judge His people.โย 31ย It is aย terrifying thing to fall into the hands of theย living God.
32ย But rememberย the former days,ย when, after beingย enlightened, you endured a greatย conflict of sufferings,ย 33ย partly by beingย made a public spectacle through reproaches and tribulations, and partly by becomingย sharers with those who were so treated.ย 34ย For youย showed sympathy to the prisoners and acceptedย joyfully the seizure of your property, knowing that you have for yourselvesย a better possession and a lasting one.35ย Therefore, do not throw away yourย confidence, which has a greatย reward.ย 36ย For you have need ofย endurance, so that when you haveย done the will of God, you mayย receiveย what was promised.
37ย For yet in a very little while,
He who is coming will come, and will not delay.
38ย But My righteous one shall live by faith;
And if he shrinks back, My soul has no pleasure in him.
39ย Butย we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to theย preserving of the soul.
