How to Know if Your Christian Church is Teaching Bad Doctrine π¨
It usually starts off sounding rightβ¦
βοΈ βWeβre all sinners and fall short of the glory of God.β
βοΈ βJesus died for our sins.β
βοΈ βBelieve in Him and youβll be forgiven.β
So far, so good.
But thenβ¦ things start to drift. β οΈ
π© Red Flag #1: βYouβre not forgiven again until you confess each sinβ
Some churches will tell you that every time you sin, you fall out of forgiveness⦠and you have to repent and ask again to be restored.
Sounds spiritual, right?
Itβs not.
π Scripture says:
- God remembers your sins no more
- He removed them βas far as the east is from the westβ
- You will be presented blameless
So if someone tells you thereβs a window where youβre unforgivenβ¦
π That directly contradicts what Jesus accomplished. And before anyone even comments, I will go ahead and say this teaching comes from a massive misunderstanding of the readings found in 1 John 1.
π© Red Flag #2: βGod wonβt bless you or answer prayers unless youβre performing wellβ
This one is subtle.
Theyβll say:
π βYouβre still savedβ¦ but God wonβt bless you if youβre not living right.β
Translation?
God becomes a reward system π°
But look around:
- Some believers struggle deeply
- Other Christians, many who live very questionable lives, prosper despite messy lives
God doesnβt bless you because you perform well.
He blesses you because He is good π
And yesβyour sins are already forgiven.
π© Red Flag #3: βTithe or God wonβt bless youβ
Youβll hear:
π βIf you donβt give, God wonβt provide.β
But hereβs the reality:
π There is no command in the New Testament requiring Christians to tithe. You won’t even find one instance, where a Christian tithed.
When giving becomes manipulationβ¦
π Itβs no longer generosityβitβs control.
Scripture even warns that those who treat God as a means of financial gain are of a depraved mind (1 Timothy 6:5).
π© Red Flag #4 (Most Dangerous): βYou can lose your salvationβ β
This is where it crosses into serious error. This is really a cult.
Some teach:
π βYouβre savedβ¦ until you sin too much.β
But think about it:
- The Bible calls it eternal salvation
- Eternal means⦠without end
So how can something eternal⦠end?
π βI will never leave you nor forsake you.β
Not when youβre good.
Not when youβre bad.
Never.
π₯ Whatβs Really Happening?
All of these false teachings do one thing:
π They shift your focus from Jesus β to your performance
They want you thinking:
- βAm I doing enough?β
- βAm I forgiven right now?β
- βIs God pleased with me today?β
But the gospel says:
β
Youβve been cleansed
β
Youβve been justified
β
Youβve been sanctified
β
You are now a child of God
π‘ Letβs Be Clear
Should Christians avoid sin?
Absolutely.
But not out of fearβ¦
Out of identity.
Youβre not trying to become something.
π You already are something new.
π₯ Final Thought
Before Jesus:
- Animal sacrifices were repeated year after year π©Έ
After Jesus:
- One sacrifice. Once. For all.
So ask yourself:
π Did the gospel get betterβ¦ or worse?
π The Truth
Jesus didnβt just cover your sins.
He cleared the entire record.
Past. Present. Future.
And noβthis doesnβt make you want to sin more.
It changes your desires.
Because nowβ¦
π You have a new heart
π A new identity
π A new life
β οΈ Donβt Let Bad Doctrine Steal Your Freedom
You have a choice:
β Obsess over your performance
β
Obsess over what Jesus did for you
One leads to fear.
The other leads to freedom.
βοΈ Stay focused on Jesus. Not yourself.
God Bless –

Author: Mike Cynar
Mike Cynar was raised in a church setting where he frequently noticed that many attendees would eventually drift away. The church labeled these individuals as ‘back sliders’ or ‘fake Christians’ just looking for ‘fire insurance’. However, Mike realized the issue was rarely with these individuals but instead with the church’s message itself. The teachings heavily emphasized behavior improvement and one’s flaws, with only a fleeting mention of one’s identity in Christ. It felt as though every sermon was tailored to the church of Corinth, who as we know or committing sins that even unbelievers don’t partake in. This trend was noticeable not just in one denomination, but across Baptist, Catholic, Pentecostal, and many other churches. Upon understanding the true essence of the gospel – that our righteousness comes from Jesus’ actions, not our own – Mike was inspired to liberate believers from lifeless sermons and reconnect them with the genuine teachings of Jesus. He believes that one can nurture a vibrant and growing bond with Jesus, unhindered by rigid religious practices. And thus, “Jesus Without Religion” was born.
It turns out that it is grace that leads to repentance. And if our heart is to get others to walk in the Spirit and live a godly life, then the best approach is not a beat down sermon, but rather to remind other that it is only when we understand our true identity in Christ that we will live it out. Yes, it’s true, if you’re convinced that God thinks you’re a dirty sinner, you will ultimately continue a lifestyle that mirrors that view, but if you truly believe that even on your worst day, you are called holy, sanctified, justified, and will be presented blameless in the end, well, it turns out this is the secret to living out on the outside what has been worked in to the inside.
