If God Will Never Punish Me, Why Should I Live a Godly Life?
✝️ If God will never punish me, why should I live a godly life?
Great question. Today, I want to share two powerful reasons why Christians—who have complete freedom in Christ—should still choose to live godly lives, even though God promises He will never punish us for our sins (Romans 8:1, John 3:18). 🙌
For many, the message of grace is offensive because it sounds like a license to sin. After all, Scripture says “all things are lawful” (1 Cor 6:12). But the truth is this: Grace doesn’t encourage sin—it gives us the freedom to see sin for what it really is: a lie that never satisfies.
✨ Reason #1: We Weren’t Made for Sin
Sin never fulfills. Sure, temptation may feel good for a moment—porn, cheating, excess drinking, lying—but in the end, it always leaves us empty 😞. Deep down, every believer knows true joy comes when we walk in the Spirit.
Remember: you are not a “bad person trying to be good.” God gave you a new heart ❤️ (Ezekiel 36:26), made you a new creation 🕊️ (2 Cor 5:17). The old you was crucified. When you resist sin, you’re not denying yourself—you’re denying the lies of the enemy who whispers, “why not indulge?” Resist him, and he will flee (James 4:7). 💪🔥
🚫 Reason #2: Earthly Consequences Are Real
God isn’t waiting to punish you. He’s not ignoring your prayers or pulling away from you. But sin still carries heavy earthly consequences. 🍷 Excessive drinking destroys health and relationships. 💻 Porn corrodes intimacy. 🚔 Lying, stealing, cheating—all come with fallout. These aren’t punishments from God; they’re the natural results of bad choices.
Even when we stumble (and we all do 👋), God’s grace never runs out. But choosing godly living spares us stress, brokenness, and regret—and leads us into more peace, joy, and freedom. 🌿
💡 Here’s the takeaway:
Life on this earth will still bring trials, pain, and loss. 🌍 But walking in Christ brings a strange, unshakable peace—even in the little moments of resting or taking a quiet walk. One path always leaves us empty, searching for more. The other leads to lasting fulfillment in Him.
🙏 Thank Jesus for the freedom to choose. Choose wisely. Choose life. Choose joy.
💜 God bless you all.
Author: Mike Cynar
Mike Cynar was raised in a church setting where he frequently noticed that many attendees would eventually drift away. The church labeled these individuals as ‘back sliders’ or ‘fake Christians’ just looking for ‘fire insurance’. However, Mike realized the issue was rarely with these individuals but instead with the church’s message itself. The teachings heavily emphasized behavior improvement and one’s flaws, with only a fleeting mention of one’s identity in Christ. It felt as though every sermon was tailored to the church of Corinth, who as we know or committing sins that even unbelievers don’t partake in. This trend was noticeable not just in one denomination, but across Baptist, Catholic, Pentecostal, and many other churches. Upon understanding the true essence of the gospel – that our righteousness comes from Jesus’ actions, not our own – Mike was inspired to liberate believers from lifeless sermons and reconnect them with the genuine teachings of Jesus. He believes that one can nurture a vibrant and growing bond with Jesus, unhindered by rigid religious practices. And thus, “Jesus Without Religion” was born.
It turns out that it is grace that leads to repentance. And if our heart is to get others to walk in the Spirit and live a godly life, then the best approach is not a beat down sermon, but rather to remind other that it is only when we understand our true identity in Christ that we will live it out. Yes, it’s true, if you’re convinced that God thinks you’re a dirty sinner, you will ultimately continue a lifestyle that mirrors that view, but if you truly believe that even on your worst day, you are called holy, sanctified, justified, and will be presented blameless in the end, well, it turns out this is the secret to living out on the outside what has been worked in to the inside.
